Job Status Definitions

Closed Promotional – For current Shelby County Permanent or Durational employees only; excludes Shelby County temporary employees and Shelby County employees on original job probation, extended probation, disciplinary probation, or suspension

Grant-Funded - Funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grant.

Open – Open to the public and Shelby County employees.

Open Register – A register of qualified applicants to be retained until a specified period of time to be considered for appointment or until the list of eligible applicants is exhausted.

Position Summary

Ensures that people have resources and assistance necessary to comply with control measures by serving as a liaison with hospitals, health care providers, housing assistance vendors, social service agencies and the COVID Response Unit to coordinate care and assistance for people placed under isolation and quarantine orders.


Pay Grade: 48

Minimum Qualifications

100% -

1. Two (2) years of experience in professional social work, of which one (1) year must have been in a responsible supervisory and/or managerial capacity; and 

2. Diploma from an accredited school of social work approved by the National Council on Social Work Education.

3. State of Tennessee social worker licensure preferred. 


Duties and Responsibilities

1. Visits clients or agencies to obtain necessary information to provide assistance to clients.

2. Confers with public and private agencies to communicate program and client needs and make necessary arrangements.

3. Makes referrals to proper agencies.

4. Completes required casework and reports.

5. Assists or initiates special studies or surveys.

6. Delivers educational programs.

7. Makes home visits to investigate and validate clients’ needs.

8. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KSAs -

1. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of social work.

2. Ability to interact tactfully with people of all economic and social levels.

3. Ability to use good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

4. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely.

Special Requirements

1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license or secure one as of employment date.

2. Must have daily access to a personal operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
